Our After School Program: STARS

(Students Together Achieving Results)

STARS is an after-school program for students (Grades 2-5) from Theodore Judah Elementary.  Through STARS, struggling students receive both academic help and loving encouragement to keep learning.

In addition to help with homework and a healthy snack, kids enjoy recreational activity, exposure to the arts, and a fun, welcoming environment where they can form friendships. STARS also offers a safe, loving place for kids to be after school, a time when many of them would otherwise be home alone.

As part of STARS, students from Folsom High School and Vista Del Lago High School provide peer tutoring and literacy support, alongside other community volunteers, for elementary school students.

A Volunteer's Perspective

I have been a volunteer with Folsom’s Hope for two years helping students with their homework as part of the STARS program at Theodore Judah Elementary School. I really enjoy being able to work one-on-one with the students. It is especially rewarding when their faces light up as they finally understand an assignment that has been a challenge for them.
